Lola Loves It: Fall 2017 Trends

Yes, autumn is here already, and although I appreciate the extended warm weather we’ve been having, I am excited for what is to come. This is my favorite season because the weather is right in between, which makes it perfect for layering. This is a fashion key for the fall. There are so many fun fashion trends that I am dying to wear. These are seven of my favorite trends this season in no particular order.

Disclaimer: I do not own any of the pictures that I am showcasing, simply posting my fashion inspirations from my Pinterest. Follow me at lolaamedina.

It’s really true when they say, “Anything men can do, women can do better.” We even wear their clothes better than they do. There is something about putting on a suit that always makes me feel powerful and exude confidence. I’m so happy we are getting away from the traditional women’s suits that I feel were designed to say what a woman should look like in a suit. I know growing up I dreaded the idea of wearing those shapeless skirt and pant suits. Now, suits have transformed into statement pieces that command the respect women deserve.

One piece I’ve been obsessing over is the checked over-sized blazer. I feel like this is an easy trend that anyone can wear. It can be dressed up with pants or dressed down with a t-shirt and jeans. If you are feeling bold, you can do print-on-print and pair the blazer with the matching pants.

Fall Florals

I love this trend because it help keeps a little bit of summer alive by bringing in bold prints and colors. You can keep your floral dresses and skirts out a little longer and pair them with essential fall pieces, like jackets and sweaters, for a feminine look.

Specifically highlighting floral maxi dresses, these fall florals are particularly black based which brings an edge to it. With this, the bold, rich colors of the flowers are able to pop. I love seeing this look paired with a classic moto jacket. You can layer a sheer underlay bodysuit with some of the dresses that are strapless or spaghetti strap. Be daring by wearing a high slit floral maxi with some over-the-knee boots.

Shine Bright Like a Diamond

Whether it’s sequins, or metallics, silver has been stirring up this year’s fall fashion. If you want to stand out or shine (literally and figuratively), this is one trend you want to try. We are no strangers to the staple sequin dress that we all love and have wore once or maybe more; that is here to stay. However, I am loving how silver is being reworked into other parts of our wardrobe pieces. For example, you can mix your jeans with a holographic silver bootie, or handbag. You can really stand out with a metallic puffer coat or trench. My favorite is the stand out silver pants, metallic shine denim, and sparkly skirts. These items can be worn with almost anything.

Lady in Red

The color red can signify so much from love and passion to power and determination. In my largely black, gray, and white wardrobe, red has always been a go-to color for me. It can be classic, edgy, and sophisticated all at once. For the fall, I love that fashion is bringing a minimalistic element to wearing red. It is okay to wear red from head-to-toe.

Going into more detail, mixing different shades and fabrics of red can help add dimension and textures, elevating an all red outfit. For my women that are a little apprehensive about trying this red look, you can match your red dress with a bright red lip, or wear a red jacket and red shoes with an otherwise simplistic outfit to stay in trend.

Deconstruction

This is a trend that seems really tricky to pull off, but is actually one of the easiest. You can even use some of the pieces you already have in your wardrobe. Deconstruction is essentially about reworking, twisting, or exaggerating the design or the way you wear traditional clothing. This includes the one shoulder or cold shoulder look. You can unbutton a classic button up shirt, and pull it to fit off the shoulders. Also, a one-sleeve fitted tee is an easy piece to wear for this trend.

Another aspect of desconstruction is slits or cut-outs that are placed through clothing, like dresses or chunky sweaters. They add a peek-a-boo factor and show off a little skin. Who knew it was possible to make a turtleneck look sexy?

What is that? Velvet?

If you are familiar with Coming to America, you will know exactly what scene I’m referencing. Whenever you wear velvet, you’ll think about how good it feels on; it’s beautiful. Everything is being made in velvet this season- bags, shoes, dresses, and pants. This is another trend that anyone can pull off because all you need is one velvet piece and you’re on trend. There is no fancy styling required for this trend unless you are going all in and wearing velvet on velvet.  What I love about the velvet this season is the vibrant colors designers are showcasing. I’m promising to wear more color in general and I feel like velvet is the way to do it.

Sheer Perfection

This trend is all about sex appeal. We were wearing it in the spring and summer, but the key to keeping it current this season is layering. You can achieve this by wearing a sheer top or bodysuit with a blazer or leather jacket. Like I stated before, you can keep some of your strapless or tank garments by wearing a sheer top underneath. We can still wear our sheer dresses and pants by adding over-the-knee boots, tunic sweaters, or long jackets for more bodycoverage.

I’m super excited for fall weather and fall fashion. I definitely will be rocking these trends and more. I might possibly wear more than one trend at a time. Let me know what are your favorite trends this season and how you want to wear them. Stay tuned for my upcoming style looks.
